Palo santo, the holy wood.

For the indigenous peoples of South America, particularly the Incas and other Andean cultures, palo santo has been sacred for thousands of years. These cultures understood the world as being filled with different energies and spirits. These cultures believed the smoke itself carried prayers and intentions to the spiritual realm, and that the wood had an inherent sacred quality developed over years.

Many people today use palo santo for clearing negative energy or cleansing a space. People often use it when moving into a new home, after difficult conversations, during life transitions, or simply as regular spiritual maintenance. Whether you believe in energetic forces or see this as more psychological and symbolic, the ritual itself can create a sense of renewal and fresh starts.
